Vanier Towers Co-Design Project
The Vanier Towers Project involved a participatory and co-design process to explore the complex health and social needs of residents in a high rise social housing building owned by CityHousing Hamilton.
The objective of the project was to determine what would enable residents to feel more comfortable, safe, secure, healthy and happy in the residential spaces - to improve the appearance and feel of the common spaces and make them more welcoming and friendly.
Through site visits and two co-design workshops, our design team identified three opportunity areas and proposed specific ideas that could be implemented by the community:
-
to improve the physical environment, including accessibility and common spaces;
-
to create a sense of community through improved communication and opportunities for residents to get involved;
-
to improve guard presence, space visibility, and resident empowerment around safety and security.
